Last December I was listening to one of my favorite movie review podcasts, The Only* Podcast About Movies. Before one of their reviews, Matt & Shahir mentioned how interested they were to see I, Tonya. That meant a lot to hear, since I had just wrapped a six-month stint working my butt off as both assistant editor and VFX editor on the film. Being part of such a great film and a great crew was already an honor on its own, so hearing that other people were excited to see it too made it land even more.
This morning they dropped their review on the film, and they opened it with a great surprise: a personal shoutout, calling me out by name as the assistant editor on the film who'd requested the review. Beyond that, I'd encourage you to give it a listen not only for how much they loved the film, but also for how much time they spend discussing the often-overlooked work of the assistant editor role in general.
Also, be sure to check out all of their other movie reviews on their site here. They've recently reviewed all of the Best Picture nominees, and they're an enjoyable listen.
